Yeti Gathering Mexico 2026: The Fifth Edition and the Pursuit of a New Horizon
Whenever a Gathering wraps up, the question that always hangs in the air—and one that has personally kept me up at night more than once—is: Where the hell are we going next? After tearing through Querétaro, Valle de Bravo, Hidalgo, and Oaxaca, the uncertainty has become a challenge. Reaching the fifth edition of this dream demands that we give it our all every year, because the standard that you, the Yeti Mexico family, have set doesn't allow us to drop our guard.
Before we dive in, it’s important to clarify what this is. The inspiration for the Yeti Gathering Mexico came from the big reunions Yeti USA has been hosting for over 20 years in Colorado. However, our essence follows a slightly different path: while the U.S. events have grown massive over the years, we’ve bet on something more intimate and profound. In Mexico, there are no split groups; the entire crew moves, eats, rides, and celebrates together. This is a total immersion experience: a format where lodging, meals, and logistics are all taken care of so that the only thing you have to do is ride and connect. We are a compact group, a family that keeps standing shoulder to shoulder.
After a couple of great personal experiences in Taxco, my sights immediately turned to this destination. We confirmed it with a proper scouting trip for the Gathering, and if there was any doubt left, it vanished the moment we got to know the work of Senderos Taxco.
Led by Luis Lugo, Pelecas, and Froy, this organization has marked a "before and after" for the region. They have spent over five years transforming the trail network that we get to enjoy today—both in the Huizteco (the public zone) and the Silver Mountain Bike Park (the private zone). Their ethics are impeccable: they conserve the local fauna, prevent erosion, use only fallen wood for trail work, and develop local athletes. That we are here today, with the certainty of an extraordinary Gathering, is a tribute to their vision.
Thursday 15 – The Mountain’s Embrace and the Concrete Labyrinth
The meeting point is at 12:00 at the Hotel Agua Escondida. At 14:00, the shuttle trucks from Freendhs (the local bike shop par excellence) and Senderos Taxco will be waiting. We head straight to the Silver Mountain Bike Park. The idea is to find the flow and feel the magic of this terrain. We’ll drop a couple of world-class trails before facing our third descent: a run that starts deep in the mountain and leads us straight into the heart of Taxco’s urban labyrinth until, without even realizing it, you’re at the hotel door. The hotel sits right in the main square of this "Pueblo Mágico"—a place that, even without the MTB factor, is enough to blow your mind.
Friday 16 – The Soul of the Huizteco and the Flavor of Taxco
We kick off with a buffet breakfast at the hotel. The trucks take us to the top of the Huizteco to shred Honguitos, Tarántula, and 420—some of the tracks that put this spot on the map. Hans and Nate Hills will be busy hunting for the perfect clips, but they ride at a level that forces us all to pick up the pace. If you see me yelling "¡Vamoooooonos!" with a tense face, it’s just because I’m focused on making sure the itinerary runs perfectly, but I’ll release all that energy at the closing dinner.
At midday, it’s gorditas and quesadillas at the dam. Gordo Lu will arrive a bit later, as usual, but when he does, he’ll have the joke of the day ready to make us all crack up. In the afternoon, we tackle two more descents and close with a new urban line—more technical and steeper—that drops us right back at the hotel. You’ll see Rayas trying once again to convince Hoog to adopt him; it’s an anecdote from last year that’s why we all affectionately call him "Papa Hoog." We hit the hotel to shower and grab a beer, and surely Pato Zorrilla will already have his Monkey Lion "tianguis" set up. Friday dinner is on your own; it’s not included so you can explore Taxco’s food scene. It’s the perfect chance for the community to mix and share a table, just like Ordóñez and Josh taught us last year—who became inseparable despite not speaking the same language.
Saturday 17 – The Yeti Trail, the Mysticism of Mil Cascadas, and the Finale
We repeat the buffet breakfast and head back to the Huizteco, but this time we venture toward an untraveled side of the mountain to inaugurate the Yeti Trail 2026: a technical, raw, and natural trail prepped by Senderos Taxco, providing the perfect contrast to the previous days. It’s three hours of descent through the Yeti Trail, a mini-road section, and an ancient royal road that turns into a giant rock garden. We’ll stop for a mid-ride beer at a local shop before hitting the spectacular finale: Mil Cascadas. And I won't say any more… you just have to see it!
After the hike or a swim, we grab some food by the crystal-clear river at Mil Cascadas, then head back to the hotel to rest up for the Closing Dinner. It’s time to give thanks, with a special shout-out to the U.S. crew and to Matthew, who has unintentionally become the fundamental link in organizing the American contingent. We’ll hand out the Spirit Award to the soul of the Gathering and toast with Mezcal Gracias a Dios. The night has no curfew.
Sunday 18 – The Farewell
Chilaquiles for the hangover at the hotel. Official group photo, one last hug, and everyone heads home with a smile, great memories, and the desire to see each other again next year! Because what makes this event great and unique isn't the place, the bikes, or the trails… it’s the people who are lucky enough to gather and share all of this!

- Thursday 15: Welcome at Hotel Agua Escondida, Taxco. Silver Mountain Bike Park and urban riding.
- Friday 16: Full Day in the Huizteco. Iconic trails, lunch at the dam, and technical urban riding. Open evening for exploration and dinner.
- Saturday 17: Yeti Trail unveiling, Mil Cascadas, and Closing Dinner with Mezcal Gracias a Dios.
- Sunday 18: Chilaquiles breakfast, group photo, and farewell.
